Even the most experienced author can sometimes struggle with break placement. Or—let’s face it—the tunnel vision required for drafting (and actually finishing the draft) can mean you’ve been focusing on other issues and plain don’t realize you’ve hit upon some problematic chapter breaks.
As an editor, I’ve seen plenty.
I’ve identified six of the most common types of problematic chapter breaks I’ve seen as an editor. But to keep the post from getting too terribly long-winded, I’ll be dividing the six problematic types into two different posts. This week, as we discuss the first three types of problematic chapter breaks, I’ll be exploring both the symptoms that will help you recognize the problem and offer some ideas for solutions.
